Medical Notes

written by Dr. Matthew Avery, sent to Johnathan Hayes

I'm Dr. Matthew Avery. I'm a humanlike kni living in western Crystallyne. I've been studying kni physiology since three years before the uprising. I've been studying a total of eight years now, but there is still much we don't know about ourselves, and the uprising only helped to slow my work. I wish to send you this note so that it can be archived so that maybe others can learn from it.

Kni forms take about two days at most to turn to ash when they die naturally or
aren't claimed. A few drops of kni essence, when exposed, will glow for a few seconds then turn to ash. When the energy is pulled from a kni's body, their form turns quickly into a floury substance called ash. When a kni dies, if they are not claimed, about a day later a growing layer of ash will form on their skin, followed by loss of rigidity, then an exponential destabilization of their form, rapidly turning to ash within 1-2 hours.

What can kill a kni naturally still isn't fully understood, but main rules still apply. Kni can almost always use heal focus, but kni can never survive for long without their vital nodes(e.g. core, head, etc.).

For kni who have lost too much essence, an essence transfusion can occur, but some guidelines must be followed for the best outcome. Focus signature must be similar, most of the time meaning gender from donor to recipient must be the same, and stored essence must be kept in a sealed, opaque container. Otherwise, either the kni's body will expend more energy to remove the incorrect essence, becoming worse off than when you started, or the stored essence will turn to ash before use.
